3 Questions to Ask Before Picking a Paint Color for Your Home Office

Your home office serves you well, and it is a place where you spend an insane amount of time. If the walls in there are starting look a bit dated and dreary, it may be time for a splash of color in the form of a new paint job from a residential painting service. Picking paint colors can be a lot of fun; you get to sift through hues and pinpoint the ones that are most visually appealing to you. However, picking a paint color for the most professional environment in your house can be tricky. Here are three questions to know the answers to before you pick a paint color for your home office.

What color makes you feel at ease?

The psychology of color is a very interesting and debatable thing. There are specific studies out there that show some people react in a certain way to some color choices. Yet, color preference has a lot to do with personal views, experience, and individual outlooks. For example, someone who had a lot of medical issues as a child may have visited a pediatrician with a yellow office, so even though yellow is often viewed as bright and cheerful to some, it may be a color that would make that individual uneasy.

Does your work tend to make your blood pressure spike?

Do you spend a lot of time on the phone arguing with clients? Are you consistently under the stringent demands of tight deadlines? If so, your stressful work may cause your blood pressure to spike, and even the paint color you choose could potentially help you feel more at ease. Science has shown that warm colors could make your blood pressure rise, and cooler hues like blue or green could have the opposite effect. So if you want a paint color that is going to help keep you peaceful and calm, something like turquoise or seafoam green may be a good choice.

Do you interview clients in your office, even via your webcam?

How often do you have clients stop in at your home office for your services? Do you host webcam interviews with prospective clients or business associates? Even though your home office is primarily for you and the paint color is most about your outlook, you do also have to be considerate of how your chosen color will make your clients feel. For instance, if you pick something like chartreuse simply because the color makes you happy, but you are in a highly professional industry, it can change how clients perceive you when they see you in your office.
